Music Review - Afterlife by Avenged Sevenfold

Image
Avenged Sevenfold are a metal band from Huntington Beach, California since 1999. The song Afterlife is a single from their self titled 2007 album "Avenged Sevenfold" written by their drummer Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan who unfortunately passed away in 2009 (5th from the left). According to rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance (1st from the left), Afterlife is "about a man who dies early and finds himself in Heaven. Upon entering, he realises that he has too many things to do on Earth and to go back and make it right, he must escape from the Afterlife" . I recommend you to listen to the song as I walk through it briefly with some timestamps. This song starts off with an amazing string section which then crescendos along with The Rev's crash cymbals into the duel guitar intro of the song (0:17) by lead guitarist Synyster Gates and rhythm guitarist Zacky Vengeance. Bassist Johnny Christ pulls off a bass riff (0:38) that leads into the first verse of the so

Music Review - Everglow by Coldplay

Image
Everglow (2015) Oi mates, This week, I am back with a review of one of my favourite songs from my favourite band, British Alternative/Rock band Coldplay’s 2015 single Everglow , the final single from their 2015 album A Head Full of Dreams. Compared to the remaining tracks of one of the more upbeat Coldplay albums, Everglow is the slowest song, with the primary melody provided by piano. Like the majority of Coldplay songs, there can be many interpretations of the song, however the most popular interpretation is the song being about loving and reminiscing about the people we have lost touch with. This is another lyrical sensation by the band, with the lyrics being delicate and touching, scattered with imagery that gives the song its soul. The combination of the lyrics and the instrumental part also conveys the emotions of the song effectively, as the song goes from a piano melody accompanied by slow drum beats to its climax where the guitar comes in, before the song ends

TV Show Review - Hunter x Hunter

Recommended by many friends of mine, I decided to watch Hunter x Hunter and just finished the first sason. I watched many animes in my life and can add one more. Hunter x Hunter is very popular around the world and has many fans. It is weird, that I just started a popular anime like HxH after watching many less popular animes. But is it really that good? Hunter x Hunter is about four teenagers who want to receive the license of a Hunter. With this license you have many benefits and prvileges in your life. You get a very high income, tickets for free when traveling with trains or buses and freedom in killing people. Yes, you don't get arrested for killing pe

Film Review - Inherent Vice

Image
One of my favourite films of all time. EXTREMELY DISORIENTATING, CRAMMED WITH ICONIC MOMENTS, LACKS ANY FORM OF CLOSURE, YET… INCREDIBLY AMAZING IMO. I'd completely understand if you defined this film as one of the worst you've ever seen, but god damn, I can't help but be biased to everything this film encompasses… Cinematography? Quite immersive (I've seen period pieces but this one genuinely took me to a time when 'Abbey Road' wasn't an old album). Writing? Oddly genius, despite me having ZERO ability to follow any form of a narrative. Characters? Not even like.. fleshed out in the slightest, yet it didn't bother me for any reason. Everything about this film shouldn't work AT ALL, yet, it somehow continues to bring me in at least once every 3 or so months. Please watch it and speak to me about it, SUPER UNDERRATED FILM THAT I'M DYING TO DISCUSS WITH SOMEONE!!!!!! 4/4 - Zion

Video Game Review - Super Mario Odyssey

Image
Super Mario Odyssey is the newest 3D game in the Super Mario Series. It came out in 2017 for the console the Nintendo Switch (2017) with great feedback from fans worldwide.  The game follows a similar storyline to most Mario games, where Princess Peach is captured by Bowser and Mario has to save her, but this time, Bowser plans to marry Princess Peach. To save her, Mario must travel on an airship to different Kingdoms, where he must collect moons to power up and continue his adventure! This was a surprising change as many games in the Mario series require stars instead, such as Super Mario 64 (1996) and shine sprites in Super Mario Sunshine (2002). Alongside his journey, Mario is paired with his new companion Cappy, which is his sentient hat that allows him to capture different enemies' spirits and control them using special abilities. I personally enjoyed the game, as it had a wide sandbox like feeling to each Kingdom, allowing you to explore every inch. A difference is

TV Show Review - Black Mirror

Image
TV Show Review ‘Sup mates, today’s blog will be on the Netflix TV series Black Mirror . Although I am a terribly impatient person that is not capable of following a series, Black Mirror is the one series that I have not missed a single episode.  Premiered in 2011, Black Mirror is a British dystopian science fiction anthology series whose setting is often in the future or the alternative present. The episodes are independent to one another and the general themes are dark and satire. The series showcases the future with unanticipated consequences of new technologies. According to the series creator Charlie Brooker, the name Black Mirror refers to the screens of technological devices, and there is a dark and scary vibe attached to the name, which suits the content and the theme of the show. The show has run for five seasons, together with a Christmas special and an interactive film, and is still being renewed. What I like about Black Mirror is firstly the

Video Game Review - The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Image
I'm back with another review to talk about one of the best video games EVER made (in my opinion of course). This game is known as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. This amazing classic game was released in 1998 for the 1996 console known as the Nintendo 64.  The game's story surrounds a young hero Link (right), who is destined as the land of Hyrule's Hero of Time to save Princess Zelda (middle) and Hyrule and to defeat the evil Gerudo King Ganondorf (left) as Link holds the Triforce of Courage. To defeat Ganondorf, you must explore the realm of Hyrule to discover new areas and dungeons which holds puzzles, enemies, bosses, keys, items and a gem/medallion needed for Link to gain power on his quest. Alongside his quest, Link is accompanied by his fairy, Navi, which gives him tips along the way. An essential element of the game is having the ability to travel time between young (left) and adult (right) link, which is 7 years, allowing him to access differen

TV Show Review - The Masked Singer (U.S.)

Image
Oi mates, For my post today I am reviewing one of my most-watched TV shows while staying at home during lockdown - The Masked Singer (I partly do this review because I have been wearing face masks for the past three months or so).  The show started in South Korea, and has been adapted by over 20 countries around the world. The show features celebrity contestants from all aspects: music, television, stage, sports, politics, gaming etc, dressed up in costumes and singing for studio audience votes. The contestant with the least number of votes each episode will be unmasked and eliminated while the one with the most votes in the finale would win the show. The contestants give clues about themselves for the audience and studio celebrity panelists to guess who they are before the contestants are unmasked. The crazy-sounding rules had led to it being easily one of the craziest shows I’ve ever watched. I have not been able to find much footage and information a

TV Show Review - Tiger King

Image
https://www.grenzecho.net/34345/artikel/2020-04-09/deswegen-sind-wir-verruckt-nach-dem-tiger-king Another day another post from your media mates! This time it is me: Yasin Erol Tiger King (2020): Last time, I talked about the documentary show about Michael Jordan and the Bulls back in the 90s. Today, I will review a documentary as well. This one takes place in a whole different setting.  It is about the blond guy with his fu manchu beard his shiny and glittering clothes AND! his wild animals, tigers. The guy in the picture you can see above is Joseph Allen Maldonado-Passage or better known as Joe Exotic. He owns a wildlife zoo with hundreds of tigers. Carole Baskin, an animal rights activist and the counterpart to Joe Exotic was his biggest enemy by trying to get the zoo closed and rescue the tigers who were living in there. Joe accused Carole Baskin of murdering her husband and feeding him to her big cats, and later tried to pay someone to murder her. Which is why he got s

Film Review - Mid90s

FILM REVIEW - Mid90s by Zion Garcia HEY MATES! I originally watched this back when it premiered, but now after a second viewing, its flaws became more apparent. Regardless, my personal bias towards this film will always speak to me on a deeper level, as my younger years were very similar to this. I was taken in by a bunch of local skaters who treated me with a certain level of respect, despite my age.  I'm also a sucker for anything 16mm, so.... The narrative has some rather notable shortcomings, most notably the ending which I'm still rather indifferent towards, as well as the sub-plot with the brother, which I feel was kinda weak with a second viewing... My first viewing was kinda odd cause I was like.. head over heels for this film, and despite my gripes, I honestly still am. This is more so a 3.5/5, but cause this stuff is all about personal opinions, imma give it a nudge up.. WATCH THIS!!!! WONDER WHAT JONAH WILL DO NEXT?!?!?!?!? also... that '

Brooklyn 99 is no doubt  one of the best and coolest  TV shows of this past decade! If you haven't seen it before, I would be telling you to ask yourself "WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" and to watch it online, however maybe just read my review first to get a better idea of why it's so great in a nutshell. Brooklyn 99 follows the main character Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), as he solves police cases with his friends in the 99th Precinct of Brooklyn, New York. He works with his great friends; Det. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), who he shares a friendly rivalry with Det. Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz), the mysterious motorbike riding cool girl Det.
