The Walking Dead Video Game Season 4 Review

The Walking Dead: The Final Season (2019)

Oi mates,
This week I am sharing my opinion on one of my favourite video game series, The Walking
Dead: The Final Season, the fourth and final instalment of the Walking Dead game series.

Like the past three seasons, the first two episodes of TWD4, which were released in 2018,
are developed by Telltale Games until their closure in September 2018. As a result, the final
two episodes of the season as well as the series were continued by Skybound
Entertainment, working together with some members of the Telltale development team,
delaying the release of the final two episodes to early 2019. For those who have not played
the game, it is an interactive episodic adventure-horror game, and an integral part of the
game is choosing between options that affect your storyline. Different choices can lead to
your storyline going drastically different directions, decide the fate of characters and change
the relationship between the controlled character and fellow characters. It depends on the
choices and storyline, but an episode generally takes between 1.5 to 2 hours. It is based on
The Walking Dead comic rather than the more popular TV series, although
frequent crossovers with the TV series can be seen in the game. And if you have not played
the game, it is preferable if you play the first three seasons before trying season 4, as it
provides a better insight to the storyline.

Season 4 tells the story of Clementine, now 17 years old, and her journey with AJ, the baby
she encountered in season 2, now 6 years old, and her efforts of protecting and raising him
while joining a group of young survivors at a boarding school. Season 4 shows us the
completion of the progressive growth of Clementine throughout the first three seasons, as
she came from the baby and the most protected member of the group in season 1, starting
to make her own calls in season 2, the wingman in season 3 and the grown-up leader in
season 4. Clementine serves as a mentor figure to AJ, raising him and teaching him survival
skills, similarly to how Lee was a mentor to Clem in the beginning. Along with being a leader
and mentor figure, many grown-up aspects of Clementine were discovered in season 4,
such as friendship and love, especially when surrounded by characters of the same age
range. The writers and developers did a great job in portraying an adolescent Clementine
and her progressive growth throughout the seasons, as well as closely connecting the
season 4 storyline with those of previous seasons. And despite all the hassle around the
game developers and this being the closing season, it did not feel like rush or lazy writing at
all, and the storyline as well as the ending of TWD4, from my point of view, was satisfactory.

The graphics and effects as well as the horror factor were amazing as always. Due to
language and violent content, the game has a 18+ rating, and is available on various
platforms from PC and smart devices to XBox and PlayStation and I would definitely
recommend TWD4 and any other seasons of the ensemble, especially if you are a fan of
TWD or the horror genre.
